1. Is AP(E)L easier than completing a CPD unit or module?
AP(E)L is a time-consuming and rigorous process which is not easy and should not be taken lightly. It can involve a significant amount of time, requiring the compiling of evidence, or drafting of an evaluative statement which calls upon key study skills. However, with the support that we will provide, you should find it a rewarding experience which will help you recognise what knowledge and skills you have and where these need to be extended in line with your career aspirations.
2. Can I apply for AP(E)L without having further study as a goal?
AP(E)L will work best for you if you have identified an area of continuing professional development which interests you or a formal qualification or award that you wish to study towards. However, it is possible to complete the AP(E)L process in order to gauge where you are before considering where you want to go next.
3. When should I enrol for AP(E)L?
Any time is a good time, especially if you are unsure of the value of your past experience in today’s dance education and training environment. If your target is to enrol for a particular CPD unit or one of the Faculty of Education programmes of study, you will benefit from completing the AP(E)L process first.
4. Is there a maximum number of AP(E)L credits that can be claimed?
If you simply want recognition of your profile to date then there is no upper limit. You will be awarded the number and level of credits merited by the evidence you provide. However, if you then want to use these credits for exemption from a programme of study leading to a university validated qualification or an RAD award, the total number of credits cannot exceed one third. The regulations on AP(E)L may differ from programme to programme and you will be advised as part of the application process.
5. Can I fail the AP(E)L unit?
No. If you are unable to provide sufficient evidence of prior learning then credits will not be awarded, but you will not be penalised and nothing will be recorded on your CPD record. You will also have the chance to resubmit stronger evidence at a later date.
