Introduction to Mentoring
Whether you are a new or experienced mentor, this unit has been designed to introduce you to current theories in Mentoring and how they can be used to strengthen your mentoring practice in and around dance teaching.
This unit is only available in the UK and Australia in 2009
Completing this unit will enable you to:
* create schemes of works and lesson plans that promote active learning for your mentees.
* reflect upon current practice in order to develop further understanding of the role of mentoring.
* observe practical teaching and provide effective feedback.
Introduction to Mentoring is a ten-part unit, designed to be studied over several months. You will work through a unit study guide, in private, and can access the help of a Tutor by phone or by email.
At regular intervals, you will also be able to submit tasks to your tutor, again in private, so that you may both measure your progress in your studies. An example of a task can include reading through a selection of supplied short articles and summarising the authors’ definition of the role of a mentor.
Each task you complete as you progress through the unit builds towards a final assignment – a reflective portfolio – which can be used as a valuable tool in your future mentoring practice.
