Launch of Guest Speaker Series: Christopher Hampson

The Faculty of Education is delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed choreographer Christopher Hampson to the first of its Guest Speaker Series, which will be held on 10th April 2012. Christopher will discuss his journey in dance so far, from RAD student aged 6 to Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet, a role he will take up this August.

Recruiting for the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance

The deadline for the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance has been extended to 29th February 2012. This course is for students who hold, or are completing, a degree in dance who wish to specialise in the syllabi of the Royal Academy of Dance. Professional Dancer's Teaching Diploma - apply now!

The deadline for the Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma has been extended to 29th February 2012. This course is specially designed for professional dancers who wish to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and experience in order to teach and extend career and employment opportunities.

We were all delighted to hear a few days ago that Professor Joan White, former Director and Dean of the Faculty of Education, has been awarded a CBE for services to dance in the New Years Honours List. Many congratulations to Joan, pictured here at the University of Surrey graduation ceremony last July.

 

BA (Hons) Dance Education: Intensive Study Seminar 2011

All students, both part-time and full-time, entering the BA (Hons) Dance Education programme at Level 4 were invited to attend an Intensive Study Seminar at RAD headquarters in London during the week commencing 24th October.

Faculty of Education tutor featured on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing

Eagle-eyed viewers of Strictly Come Dancing on the evening of Saturday 22nd October might have spotted Holly Price, RAD Studies Manager and Lecturer in Ballet Education at the RAD, giving Audley Harrison a ballet lesson. Watch the footage on BBC iPlayer (starts 0:33:05).

PGCE:DT Partnership Tutor Training Days

The first of two PGCE:DT Partnership Tutor Training Days took place on Thursday 29th September 2011.

The training days are to ensure that Partnership Schools and Colleges feel fully involved in the development and delivery of the programme.  They are also useful occasions for sharing good practice and learning about Trainee Teacher mentoring experiences in other schools and colleges.

Launch of Focus on Education e-newsletter

On 11th October, we launched the first issue of Focus on Education, the e-newsletter which will be published by the Faculty of Education three times a year. The e-newsletter is sent out to Faculty of Education students, alumni and partners, as well as RAD teaching members. 

PGCE:DT and RAD Dance School Collaboration

The PGCE:DT trainees and students from the RAD Dance School have been working together on an exciting teaching project. Delivered over two consecutive Sundays, the PGCE:DT trainees have been delivering a range of workshops to the RAD Dance School pupils. B-Boying, Street, Commercial, Capoeira and Jazz are amongst the workshop genres.
