CPD Summer Workshops

Open to all teachers, our CPD workshops look at key aspects of delivering the RAD syllabi. Over a week of practical workshops covering the RAD syllabus from Pre-primary in Dance and Primary in Dance to Advanced Two, these intensive sessions  provide opportunity to focus on developing your teaching skills and subject knowledge, and the chance to network with other dance teachers to share ideas and expertise.

26 July: Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate: Focus on Variations

Explore the female and male variations from the new Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabi with the Artistic Director of the RAD.

27 July: Choreography in Class
Tutor: Karen Berry BA(Hons), RAD T Dip, LISTD

Advice and ideas on choreography for solo performances and class work, covering elements such as stimulus, content, improvisation and form.

28 July: Grades 6 and 7: Boys Work
Tutor: Valerie Sunderland FRAD, LRAD, ARAD, Adv T Dip ARCM

Explore how teachers can support and develop young male dancers using the Grades 6 and 7 syllabi 

29 July: Dance Practice with Adults
Tutor: Serena Cundari ARAD, PDTD

A practical workshop and discussion on adapting teaching practice to suit adults of different abilities, choosing appropriate resources, and motivating and encouraging a group of adult dancers

21 - 23 July: Introduction to the new Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabi

The course focusses on the new Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabi. Each course is 1.5 days long.

Intermediate Foundation: 21 July – 22 July (AM)

Intermediate: 22 July (PM) – 23 July

Cost: 1.5 days: £97.50; 3 days: £195

24 July: Strong and Healthy Voices for dance teachers
Tutor: Vanessa Mildenberg MPhil

This taster workshop will give you the opportunity to learn how to speak with an open, connected and free voice, through breath and vocal techniques specifically created for the dancer and dance teacher. 

25 July: Benesh Movement Notation in Practice
Tutor: Victoria Watts MFA

The use of Benesh Movement Notation is an excellent way to move beyond the written syllabi. This workshop provides an introduction to the notation, and will guide you through its practical uses with examples from RAD syllabi.

26 July: Choreography in Class

27 July: Making the Most of Music

Explore the musical aspects of breaking down and making up exercises, and how to make the most of music in a class be it live, recorded or a mixture of both.

These workshops will count towards your portfolio of achievement but not towards the Academy's CPD requirements which only become mandatory for all RAD Registered Teachers from 1 July 2013.
