Continuous Professional Development And Everything About It

We all have heard the saying: You live and learn. Yes, that is completely true but is there any way to document your knowledge and skill that you obtain?  Are you looking for the concept that explains why should you learn and develop your profile? Have you heard of CPD but do not know what is it? You are not so sure about it and what steps are included? Don’t know how it can be useful to you? This article will explain basic things about his concept so you could get familiar with it and know what advantages it offers to you.  But before all, let us explain what a profession is.

The definition of a profession

Roughly said, it is an area of career/work that requires a professional qualification or proof that you do possess skills for a particular job. The profession is law, medicine, accountancy but also HR and marketing. Now, it is not LEGALLY required to possess the diploma or certificate in HR to work in that area, as you can additionally obtain the certificates that prove you are skilled HR consultant. Therefore, we can conclude that a profession implies the human’s area of work and his expertise. Let’s move to the CPD

What is CPD?

It is an ongoing process of developing your professional skills that you acquire through courses, trainings or by watching other co-workers at work in your profession. There are different CPDs, depending on the company you are working for example. Also, depending on the place and regulations, it can be informal and formal. The formal one could be documenting of every skill, development milestone and condition, but its carrying out can depend on your membership, registration and a license. Usually, the formal ones are part of the employment in large corporations where the company sends the workers on the constant training and professional development sessions.

The informal one is related to watching other workers and observing their activity. This is done as a passive way of learning where you, watching other people working, can “imitate” their work. Once you are good at that, it means you have acquired the required skill by observing in an informal way. This is often done in small companies when the training is provided as the part of the employment (for example, the professional Java developer could observe and learn from other developers the different language and therefore expand its knowledge – develop his skills). Though the informal is not that common, it can be found throughout the companies and enterprises.

The five steps of CPD

It has five steps: identification and planning, learning, reflecting on learning, applying knowledge and sharing knowledge. The first step is to identify what you want to learn and improve and plan your activities. The next step is to learning what you identified that you want to learn and develop your knowledge. Once you develop it, you need to remember it, so a reflection is a kind of a self-check. Now, apply the knowledge you have learned and ultimately share it with other people.

Be The Part Of Dance Lifelong Wellbeing

One of the things that the academy offers unlike other ones is the opportunity to participate in the project that involves voluntary dance teaching. It is not an ordinary teaching class, but rather an even that is supported by the Community Learning Innovation Fund. On top of that, the teachers will work with the older adults who want to learn dancing, and the whole activity is backed up by the senior teachers who will provide the training and required knowledge. Since the majority of dance academies do not support projects like this, we think that is an additional reason why you should enroll in the academy.

What is this about?

The Community Learning Innovation Fund had secured the funds necessary for this project with the goal of promoting dancing even in older age when people usually stay at home without any special hobby. The main objective is to prepare several teachers who will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills, but also the importance of dance and its beauty. The teachers will have to pass an 8-month practice and lectures before engaging in real-life situations where they use the acquired knowledge. Prior to this, they must complete the seminar which is crucial for preparation and the project. In order to get to the seminar, the teachers will learn and complete various tests regarding the dance knowledge and theory before emerging into the teaching job.

The oldest learner was 102 years old, which is proof that dance does not choose the age. Elderly people want to dance, but they do not have a place where they could enjoy learning and dancing with someone of their age, and therefore this project is vital for the general communication and relationship between people. It is not true that you will encounter younger people in this project, but the target group is people over 55 years, who want to dance.

The project is unique as well as the experience that you will gain in it and it can be especially efficient for your CV if you are planning to pursue a dancing career. Do not be afraid and have a feeling that you will be overwhelmed with work. On the contrary, you will have full support and assistance in everything you need, plus you will work the colleagues of your age that are trying to do the same thing as you do. All the resources and necessary equipment will be provided so you could create a real dancing concert or event.

Exploring the benefits of dance

While the project strives to engage older people into social gatherings, it explores the benefits of movement and dance. Every kind of physical activity is good for people, but dance is something unique and personal that gives good results, as if you have played some kind of sport. The target group is older people, so the effects of dance could be researched and recorded. The outcome of this project will be explained and presented with clear facts about the benefits of dance in the older population. Do not miss the Dance Lifelong Wellbeing project!
